When you visit us, you are kindly invited to join Jernej and Marta in creating seasonal and local home-made dishes. If you wish, you can also learn how to make “idrijski žlikrofi” (dumplings), “bakalca” (lamb sauce), the house “štruklji” (rolled dumplings) and other dishes with their help.
Spring is the time for various dishes with asparagus, wild garlic soup, “štruklji”, freshly-picked porcini mushrooms and chanterelles, altogether spiced up with a dandelion salad, dressed with cracklings and potato. In hot summer months, dishes are accompanied by home-made vegetables, which are particularly welcomed by vegetarians. In autumn, guests indulge in an excellent squash soup and “štruklji”, complemented by a chestnut pie. Finally, winter is the time for cabbage, pork sausages, turnip, the Šebrelje želodec and various pork meat and sausages.
To brighten up your day as best as we can, it is recommended that you call us first, since there is always something to do on a farm. You can be served in the old rural house with a baker’s oven, in the arched cellar or outside in the garden, where you can indulge in the shade of a 100-year-old linden and chestnut trees. We prepare simple home-made dishes, be it either slow food or fast food, to your liking. We will gladly listen to and fulfil any wish you may have.
The Tourist Farm is beautifully located at the intersection of three picturesque valleys. It consists of a historic farmhouse, with origins dating back to 1814 and even further, along with a charming vaulted barn and a traditional hayloft that completes the rural landscape.
In 1995, Marta and Peter, the current owners, lovingly renovated the farm. Alongside the original buildings, they constructed a new house designed to meet modern needs and cater to tourism and guest accommodations.
Slovenia is home to many beautiful and well-preserved old farmhouses, offering the perfect blend of relaxation and experience. The Želinc Farmstay is an ideal choice for a family vacation on a farm in Slovenia, where guests can enjoy the peaceful countryside while benefiting from modern amenities and warm hospitality.
The first known written records of the Farm in Želin, locally called “pri Želincu”, date back to the end of the 14th century. Back then, our ancestors started working a small farm that eventually, through hard work and with the help of farmhands and maidservants, grew into a medium-sized farm (around 63 hectares).
The farm was passed from one generation to another, each generation leaving its mark on the farm. However, every generation pursued livestock and arable farming. Most of the time, the farm was self-sufficient, while any surplus was sold to buy fabric and sugar in particular.
As generations changed, the farm experienced its ups and downs. During World Wars I and II, the farm remained intact thanks to its strategically important military location. The fact that much was happening in this region during the war is supported by war ruins, such as bunkers and observation posts.
